After a "chain up" climb, the landscape opened up and it became obvious why the town we were heading for is New Meadows.
We crossed the 45th parallel. A sign informed us we were halfway between the North Pole and the Equator.
We arrived at the Hartland Inn around 1:30, glad to be out of the heat.
After dinner we met Bill, who is cycling East to lose weight, look for a job, and "just take it one day at a time."
