People we meet ask us how far we've come- 2,556 miles to date. This includes any riding around we do while we are in a town. Then they as how many miles the trip will be- for this we have no answer, since we haven't done the math. Plus, it seems we are always making changes to our route.
They then ask about how many tires we've gone through. Marie has had zero flats. Her rear tire is starting to square off so I think I'll rotate it to the front. Once I got onto my Continental Gatorskins, I've had zero issues.
We got about 2,500 miles in all from our 9 speed chains. I did not renew the cogs at this time- I'm hoping that by refreshing the chains before they were completely worn will allow the cogs to last the entire trip. We both run exactly the same dérailleur, cogs and chains, even though hers is (was) a racing bike and mine is a touring bike. I wanted to standardize as much as we could.
So far the bikes are holding up extremely well.
