The whole day was magical, from riding to see "Ben Biking" in Sparta to the two rail trails today. Winona's grand architecture was also a surprise.
The restrooms at frequent intervals along the trails were greatly appreciated. All the facilities have the same design, and three of the four trails have running water. The Great River Trail has pit toilets. I'm going to miss these amenities as we take to the roads tomorrow.
What we thought was our first glimpse of the Mississppi, turned out to be Lake Onalaska.
The Great River Trail was shaded, but not as groomed. At times we had swamps on either side of us.
The entrance to the Trempeleau wildlife refuge gave no clue to its magic.
It was as if we were riding in a river of wild flowers.
We ended the day with dinner at the Boat House, which was right on the Mississipi.
